New!!! DJ Ren: Se Me Perdio La Cumbia

I grew up listening to cumbia, whether in my house, at parties, in my dreams....I mean cumbia has been a part of my life for a long time. The thing I love about cumbia is that unlike many of the other "Latin" genres, cumbia can sound very differently depending on its country or region of origin.

Growing up Salvadoran, I heard my fair share of cumbia tropical. Anything from Aniceto Molina, Los Hermanos Flores, and La Sonora Dinamita. However, I also listened quite a bit to Mexican cumbia (Celso Piña, Grupo Cañaveral, Grupo Megaton, Grupo Kual, Los Angeles Azules, etc) cause I used to work at the Alameda Swapmeet in a gift shop. Next door there used to be a music store that blasted all cumbia all day long.

My new mixtape, Se Me Perdio La Cumbia (I Lost the Cumbia) is a compilation...or more aptly put, an attempt to compile cumbia of various forms. They may not always gel nicely together but in the end they are family. Enjoy.
